this series, posted weekly on Fridays, brings you poems, stories & art by a younger shannon. today’s is from ~1977 (age 8), when I and mother lived in an apartment in Houston, Texas. so much of my life was topsy turvy - from living in a new state (we’d recently moved from New York ~6 months before, and this apartment was our 2nd move within Texas), to the new state of my parent’s separation. I suspect the poem had something to do with the song “Deep in the Heart of Texas”, where the lyrics refrain was simply “the stars at night, are big & bright… deep in the heart of texas!”
the stars are bright, every night It's a sight, Oh it's so bright, everynight the Stars are nice, and small like mice And Stars "taste" nice with sugar and spice, it's so nice every night
