this series, posted weekly on Fridays, brings you poems, stories & art by a younger shannon. today’s was marked Grade 7, so I suppose that signifier probably means I was in Canada at that point (in the U.S. I believe they would simply call it ‘7th Grade’). I started 7th grade in Arkansas, and then in November we moved to a small town in Ontario, Canada.
our time in Arkansas was very troubled. leaving my stepfather, we packed our car and drove over a few days to my grandma’s house, which she had just purchased within the past couple months. it’s like she knew we were coming (I asked my mother, Gram did not know until a few days before). it’s kinda nice to think I was settled enough at some point in that school year to have a crush on someone new.
The first time you smiled at me I thought I'd cry I realized that I loved you So don't say goodbye I'll miss you when you leave me but I will never forget The first time you smiled at me I smiled back The next time you look at me I'll look too You'll smile, I'll smile I'll blush, but won't forget.
